bottom. Juan Fernández Islands are a sparsely inhabited island group in
the South Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile. Three
main volcanic islands: Robinson Crusoe, Alejandro Selkirk and Santa
Clara.
The islands are primarily known for having been the home to the marooned
sailor Alexander Selkirk for more than four years from 1704, which is
thought to have inspired Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe. The
islands are named after Juan Fernández, the explorer who discovered them
in the 1570s
